Ingredients
1 cup Royal® Chef’s Secret Basmati Rice
2 cups water
1/4 teaspoon saffron threads
2 tablespoons warm milk
2 tablespoons butter or ghee
Salt to taste
Optional: 1/4 cup sliced almonds or cashews for garnish
Preparation
- Rinse the Royal® Chef’s Secret Basmati Rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
- In a small bowl, soak the saffron threads in warm milk and set aside. Let it steep for at least 10-15 minutes to infuse the milk with saffron’s flavor and color.
- In a medium-sized pot, bring 2 cups of water to a boil. Add salt to taste.
- Once the water is boiling, add the rinsed basmati rice to the pot. Stir gently and reduce the heat to low. Cover the pot with a lid and let the rice simmer for about 15-20 minutes, or until all the water is absorbed and the rice is cooked through.
- While the rice is cooking, melt the butter or ghee in a small saucepan over low heat.
- Once the rice is cooked, fluff it gently with a fork to separate the grains. Pour the melted butter or ghee over the rice and gently mix to coat the grains evenly.
- Next, pour the saffron-infused milk over the rice. You can either drizzle it evenly over the top or mix it gently with the rice to distribute the saffron’s color and flavor.
- Optional: In a small skillet, toast the sliced almonds or cashews over medium heat until lightly golden. Sprinkle the toasted nuts over the saffron rice for added crunch and flavor.
- Serve the saffron rice hot as a delicious side dish for your favorite main course.
- Enjoy your aromatic and flavorful saffron rice!
