Ingredients

1 cup Royal® Chef’s Secret Basmati Rice

2 cups water

1/4 teaspoon saffron threads

2 tablespoons warm milk

2 tablespoons butter or ghee

Salt to taste

Optional: 1/4 cup sliced almonds or cashews for garnish

Preparation

  1. Rinse the Royal® Chef’s Secret Basmati Rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
  2. In a small bowl, soak the saffron threads in warm milk and set aside. Let it steep for at least 10-15 minutes to infuse the milk with saffron’s flavor and color.
  3. In a medium-sized pot, bring 2 cups of water to a boil. Add salt to taste.
  4. Once the water is boiling, add the rinsed basmati rice to the pot. Stir gently and reduce the heat to low. Cover the pot with a lid and let the rice simmer for about 15-20 minutes, or until all the water is absorbed and the rice is cooked through.
  5. While the rice is cooking, melt the butter or ghee in a small saucepan over low heat.
  6. Once the rice is cooked, fluff it gently with a fork to separate the grains. Pour the melted butter or ghee over the rice and gently mix to coat the grains evenly.
  7. Next, pour the saffron-infused milk over the rice. You can either drizzle it evenly over the top or mix it gently with the rice to distribute the saffron’s color and flavor.
  8. Optional: In a small skillet, toast the sliced almonds or cashews over medium heat until lightly golden. Sprinkle the toasted nuts over the saffron rice for added crunch and flavor.
  9. Serve the saffron rice hot as a delicious side dish for your favorite main course.
  10. Enjoy your aromatic and flavorful saffron rice!
